The talented cast of Lakshman Rekha includes experienced theatre actors, student performers, many friends and colleagues from AISFM and a guest appearance from a leading Indian actor. Except for the cinematographer and the director, each and every crew member was cast in the film, including the set caterer, make up man and production driver.
Tanya Joshi (Sameera Khan)
Tanya is a trained dancer from Shiamak Davar Institute of Performing Arts and has represented India in US and China for dance shows. She has also trained as a theatre actor under Chilsag Chillies Theatre Group, New Delhi. Some of her short film credits include Sales Girls, Pehli Supari & In Love Dobara. Her film Amrutha 96.4 FM recently crossed a hundred thousand views on YouTube. She is currently enrolled in Bachelors for Sound Design at Annapurna International School of Film + Media.
Nimit Pershad (Aman Kushwaha)
Hyderabad based Nimit Pershad is a faculty for Photography at Annapurna International School of Film + Media. He is a lifestyle photographer of repute. His work has featured in several magazines and newspapers including BBC Good Food Magazine. In addition to his teaching career, Nimit also runs a studio that specializes in portrait and wedding photography. And whenever time permits, he indulges his passion for acting.
Prithvi Chahal (Akash Kushwaha)
Prithvi is pursuing a Bachelors in Fine Arts specializing in Cinematography from Annapurna International School of Film + Media. He is a writer, editor and director as well and regularly makes short films in various genres. He is a very sought after actor on and off campus, thanks to his acting abilities. Apart from Lakshman Rekha he has acted in a film called Next Week in Bologna which is under production and due to release later this year.
Vinay Varma (Dharmguru Prabhu Maharaj)
Versatile and talented, Vinay Varma is a theatre actor and director, film actor, scriptwriter and voice over artist. He has founded a theatre group called Sutradhar which has performed immensely acclaimed plays under his direction, some of which are Biriyani aur Haleem, Main Nathuram Godse, Agnes of God, Sita Apaharan Case and Ismat – Ek Aurat. His notable screen roles were in film and television projects like Rudraksh, 16 December, Bobby Jasoos and Ek Kahani.
Amala Akkineni (Herself)
Amala Akkineni debuted in a Tamil film titled Mythili Ennai Kaathali (1986) which was an immense box-office hit. Her acting career took off overnight and she went on to act in about 50 films since then. She has won the Filmfare & CineMaa award for best female actor in leading and supporting roles thrice during this period. Over the last decade she has been actively involved in animal welfare programs across the country, and is a trained Bharatnatyam dancer.
Sowmya Ram (Nivedita Acharya)
Sowmya Ram is a theatre actor, director and drama therapist, and is the executive committee member of Nishumbita Ballet & Theatre Group. Over the last few years she has been making drama available as a form of therapy to people with special needs in Hyderabad through Nishumbita. She has performed for popular plays such as Khamosh! Adalat Jari Hai, Mahabharat of Women and Chitrangada. She has a Masters in Communication from Hyderabad Central University.
Subhash Gupta (Amin Siddiqui)
Subhash Gupta has been a performing artist since 1967 and over his five decades of professional life has worked with eminent directors such as Sai Paranjpe, Rajinder Nath, M.K.Raina and Nagesh Kuknoor on projects notable amongst which are Gandhi, Nirman, Amar Jyoti, Kahan Tak Aasma Hai, Lakshmi and Pehle Aap. He has been associated with theatre groups such as Natyadwai, IPTA and Agradoot and has performed over 300 theatre plays over the last five decades.
After receiving her first camera at the age of 6, there was no looking back for Rachana. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Communication from Mount Carmel College, Bangalore and has recently completed her Masters in Filmmaking, specialising in Direction + Cinematography from Annapurna International School of Film + Media. She has directed and shot her graduation film, ‘Navvu’, a documentary on spreading smiles and has worked in the capacity of DOP and Gaffer for several short films and advertisements. Added to her talent as a director and cinematographer, is her superlative acting prowess which made her perfect for the role of Pari Mukherjee. Currently, she is working with the cinematography team of a regional feature film.
